Personal Development
At Seva Education, personal development is at the heart of everything we do. Our values and ethos underpin everyday life within our school community and support each pupil and student to become confident, respectful, independent, and active members of society. We are committed to ensuring that every individual is prepared for adulthood through meaningful experiences that promote wellbeing, resilience, communication, independence, and positive relationships.
Our personal development offer is designed to meet the diverse needs of pupils and students within a SEND environment. Through a personalised and inclusive approach, we support learners to develop the knowledge, skills, confidence, and cultural understanding needed to live healthy, safe, and fulfilling lives. Every lesson and experience provides an opportunity to connect learning to the wider world in ways that are engaging, relevant, and accessible.
The promotion of British Values is central to our curriculum and school culture. Pupils and students are taught the importance of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. These principles are embedded throughout school life and are reflected in our core values of Equality, Aspiration, Respect, and Humanity. We actively encourage learners to express their views, listen to others, and understand the importance of fairness, responsibility, and inclusion.
Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural (SMSC) development is woven throughout the curriculum and wider school experiences. Through Religion and Worldviews, PSHE/RSE, enrichment activities, assemblies, tutor sessions, and themed learning days, pupils and students explore different cultures, communities, beliefs, and perspectives. They are supported to understand themselves and others, celebrate diversity, and develop respect for people from all backgrounds and experiences.
Our PSHE/RSE curriculum empowers pupils and students with the knowledge and confidence to make informed choices about their health, wellbeing, safety, relationships, and future aspirations. Learning is carefully adapted to meet individual needs and developmental stages, ensuring that all pupils and students can access and benefit from the curriculum in a meaningful way. We promote healthy lifestyles through learning about emotional wellbeing, physical health, online safety, healthy relationships, and understanding where food comes from, including opportunities for practical outdoor learning and horticulture.
At Seva Education, we recognise the importance of pupil voice and active participation. Pupils and students are encouraged to contribute to school life through opportunities such as School Council, restorative conversations, enrichment activities, and community engagement. These experiences help learners develop confidence, communication skills, independence, and a sense of responsibility towards others.
We are committed to creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where individuality is celebrated and all forms of discrimination, bullying, or prejudice are challenged. Through consistent support and positive relationships, pupils and students learn to value themselves and others, develop self-esteem, and build the skills needed to succeed in further education, employment, and adult life.
The impact of our personal development curriculum is seen in pupils and students who are increasingly confident, resilient, reflective, and prepared for the next stage of their lives. They leave Seva Education with the ability to make informed decisions, engage positively with their communities, and contribute meaningfully to society.
